For all those who would like to know more about the individual boys of Libera, I continue to recommend the wonderful Libera Passion site, stewarded by Patrick FandeLok and Quentin (aka The Furby). This site (in French, but fairly easy for non-Francophones to decipher) maintains an up-to-date photo, media, tour and concert record of:

"Membres Réguliers" (Current Members) — Boys who have participated in the most recent concert or tour.
"Miniboys" — This is Libera lingo for young singers in training. Names are not paired with faces unless the boys have been positively identified by photo.
"Absents du Dernier Concert" — Singers who have performed regularly with the group, but were absent from the previous concert or tour.
"Anciens Membres" — Former Libera singers, going back to the 1980s, when the group was known as "Angel Voices."
"Staff" — Staff members (often Libera alumni) and their roles with the group.
• "Liens" — Family groupings of brothers or cousins who have been members of Libera.

If a name appears in blue, you can click on it to see additional photos and statistics on that singer. The site also hosts an active fan forum (in French) with reviews, photos, and discussions.

On July 9th, as mentioned in Part 10, the Libera Passion Site unveiled a stunning new set of databases. This was primarily the work of "The Furby," long-time co-host of the site, and was a marvelous boon to Libera fans.

Libera fan Jay_S contributed the following on the Libera Dreams Forum:

I recently visited the Libera website https://libera.org.uk/music/hope/ and I was very happy to see the lyrics to the songs on Hope. I hadn't noticed this feature before now. Click the little blue page icon to the right of the songs and the lyrics show up!

I have visited the [German site hosted by mawi]] http://www.libera-songs.de/ for lyrics of previous albums. I think mawi's site is [excellent] regarding the information about songs. It not only provides the lyrics, but also indicates which parts are sung by soloists and which by the choir. Additionally there is data about different versions of the song (authors, recording/first publishing year, soloist, lineup and so on) plus in many cases some interesting remarks about the song or its background (this is in German only).—Jay S.

The excellence of the non-English sites, combined with a request from reader E. Wick for help in translation, led to this small tutorial on:

 Translation Assistance

I find that much of the information on the Libera Passion site and Die Deutsche Libera Songseite  http://www.libera-songs.de/ is pretty accessible because of its context (lists of songs, videos, singers, etc.

However, for more clarity, especially on  reviews, comments, etc., go to "Google Translate," https://translate.google.com/. There you'll see a blank to enter the material you want translated, and buttons to indicate the original language and the language you want to read.

(See above screenshot from Libera Passion for an example of the more accessible content; it details video appearances by Alessandro Mackinnon-Botti, translated from French to English. Note how similar the two pages are.)

Sometimes the translations of more complicated paragraphs are a little off, but one can generally figure them out, as with the second screenshot here, the opening paragraph of Die Deutsche Libera Songseite's introduction to Libera:

On August 11th, the St. Louis Cathedral Facebook site posted some lovely photos of the August 9th concert in the Cathedral Basilica.

LIBERA RADIO INTERVIEW

L to R: Radio Host John Romeri, Leo Barron, Robert Prizeman, Peter Kielty, Alex Gula
On August 12th, an interview by radio host John Romeri with Robert Prizeman, joined by Peter Kielty, Alex Gula and Leo Barron, was broadcast by the Christ Cathedral Radio Station's "Music from the Tower" series, and included excerpts from the following songs:

Sanctus  (based upon the Pachelbel Canon)
Angeli Dei   by Robert Prizeman  from their new album HOPE
Wayfaring Stranger  from their new album HOPE
Joyful Joyful we adore Thee   Beethoven/ Prizeman

The stations: KHJ 930 AM & KCEO 1000 AM

On August 14th, the podcast became available.

(Podcast interview with host John Romeri, Robert Prizeman, Leo Barron, Peter Kielty, and Alex Gula/48:00)

The broadcast was especially interesting because, unlike many interviews two choir directors were able to discuss the logistics and musical training of the group at some length, and the boys to add their viewpoint to the perspective.

LIBERA TO APPEAR ON BIG SING EVENT

Libera at 2012 Big Sing

For those not familiar with the "Big Sing" phenomenon, the event is held in a vast venue, Here's an excerpt from Part Four of this Timeline, detailing the 2012 Sing, held in the vast Alexandra Palace (the "Ally Pally") in London.

Unlike the 2012 event, this one was announced as a "Christmas/New Year's concert."

Come and be part of the celebration at Songs of Praise – The Big Sing
Join the five thousand-strong congregation at this popular annual event, singing hymns old and new and some traditional Christmas Carols plus, of course, some very special guests.
This show is recorded to be broadcast on BBC ONE on Sunday 24 December and Sunday 31 December 2017.
The last Libera Big Sing appearance was in 2013

On September 8th, the Liberaverse was buzzing with some startling news, some of it contradictory:

Libera will be making their first trip to the People's Republic of China for the 19th annual Shanghai International Arts Festival. This month-long event is supposed to foster cultural exchange and this year some of the focus will be on the UK.

There is a video on the Facebook page of the ICS Shanghai Live news agency (an English language news service in China) advertising their visit which was posted by Jimmy Riddle on Twitter, and which allowed me to find some of the other information.—surpinto

To ease your search, you may use the Chinese characters for Libera.
The name varies but the second looks to be the most often used:
天使之翼童声合唱团 : Angel Wings Children's Choir
天使之翼合唱
團 : Angel Wings Chorus

Also useful for search :
上海国际艺术节参演剧目 : Shanghai International Art Festival

On the Shanghai Int. Art Festival site, if you use the Chinese pages, you will see one performance noted, with day, time and venue

China Shanghai International Arts Festival - Friends Club Teams up with Volvo Cars
The 19th China Shanghai International Arts Festival signed with Volvo Cars, which will help organize three programs. They are a concert by the #British children's choir Libera, modern dance from Sydney Dance Company which took part in the festival 12 years ago, and an educational symphony from Germany for children under 5. That fits in with this year's theme of family and children's #music education.
The festival will run from October 20th to November 19th.

Thank you for the additional information, FDL. The set list differs from that on the official site for the event and, as you say, looks more legitimate. So I would agree that this is the correct list. You are far more resilient than I am trying to navigate Chinese websites.  I always become frustrated, but at least now we have a date, time, and venue:
October 28 at 19:30 in the Shanghai Oriental Art Center Concert Hall.—surpinto

The Shanghai Oriental Art Center (Chinese上海艺术中心, p Shànghǎi Dōngfāng Yìshù Zhōngxīn), abbreviated SHOAC, is one of the leading performance and cultural facilities in Shanghai, China. The five interconnected hemispherical halls or "petals" are shaped to resemble a butterfly orchid from above.[1] They comprise the Entrance Hall, the Concert Hall, the Opera Hall, the Performance Hall, and the Exhibition Hall. The high-tech ceiling changes color during the night to reflect the nature of the performances inside. Located off Century Avenue in Pudong, the SHOAC was opened with a New Year's Eve concert in 2004 and officially opened on July 1, 2005.

Concert Hall

The Concert Hall has 1953 seats, a computer-controlled elevating stage, and an 88-diapason 5-layer organ by Austria's Reagel Pipe Organ. It houses 2 VIP and 7 regular dressing rooms.

On September 10th, Libera took part in the videorecording of the Christmas/New Year's Songs of Praise "Big Sing," at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The event will be broadcast in late December.

Photo by Yuki as the capacity audience filed in; no photography allowed during the concert.
Patrick summarizes what was written tonight on twitter about the Songs of Praise 'Big Sing:'

Libera performed one song, on their own : 'From A Distance;' Speculations were right for a
recent
song from the Hope CD. They were the first artists on stage, probably so they could leave early and go back home not too late before school tomorrow.

The song was sung twice. I have not noticed any issue on the first take, I can't say what justified to have it redone but anyway it was good for the public. Btw almost every song was sung twice.

For the second.take Aled Jones was on stage to introduce them.

They were 28 on stage, the same 26 as the US tour plus Victor Wiggin and Alexandre Menuet.
At first, not easy to identify everyone, lots of new hairstyles. They were spread a bit everywhere on the stage, all facing the audience.Merlin Brouwer was at the center front, singing the solo of course.
High notes by Taichi Shinokubo and Leo Barron.

The song was a bit abridged, surely to fit some TV timing constraint. The second sentence that Merlin usually sings alone before the others join him was removed. The same near the end, a bit of solo missed.

Robert Prizeman was at the very center of the arena, conducting both the numerous musicians and the Libera choir.

The song will be broadcast on
Songs of Praise on New Year's eve, December 31.—Patrick

On September 13th, Libera posted a short video of the action behind the scenes at the making their two most recent music videos, Salve Regina" and "Smile."

Arthur Palmer, Romeo Tesei, and Taichi Shinokubo appear onscreen during the filming process.

On September 18th, bachmahlerfan posted the following on the Libera Dreams Forum:

This new video from Libera's twitter account has persuaded me that the tour to China is indeed happening. I mean, why else would they suddenly post a video of one of their members attempting to use chopsticks? https://twitter.com/officiallibera/stat ... 5783566336

Shanghai Oriental Art Center: Concert Hall

On September 23rd, fans from three continents weighed in with their concerns over this tour.

[...] this concert schedule will no doubt be a challenging one for the group. I expect that their sound/light crew will be absolutely overwhelmed having to set up at a new venue every single day. Although everything seems as though it is in relatively close proximity, it's really not; with some venues being over 2 hours away from the city center. If they stay in a central part of Shanghai they will still travel a great distance to some venues and less so to others. So their travel times will depend heavily on where they choose to get accommodations. Nevertheless, several hours each way is no joke if it's happening every day. And it will still be tough to perform that much with no breaks.—Surpinto

I agree. What a packed week! As great as I find the idea of a chance of giving so many concerts, now I am worried! Speaking about the boys (and for everyone else it will be stress, too): A very long flight, a large time shift, a concert each day at a different venue so that they must travel and have soundcheck rehearsal every day - when can they rest their voices? When can they rest themselves? When can they have free time for some fun? And all this is pressed between school days: When they return after flight and time shift, they must go to school immediately. Did they think about all that? I'm nervous, really.  It seems like a week only consisting of work, how will they handle that? Three concerts would have been fine and enough, I find ...—filiarheni

I am sure that they very much did think about that and have probably worked out how to manage the tour so that it is minimally stressful. It is also extremely likely that they have an agent or organization responsible for arranging both their performances and their leisure time; with the particular needs of a group of young people taken into account. But I still cannot help but think that they are overreaching with such an intense schedule. Obviously, as fans, there is no place for us to question what Libera or any other group does as they have a right to their own agenda. But as a fan I do share some of your disquiet, filiarheni, as it concerns such a schedule. Be that as it may, I am certain that it will be a fantastic tour for them and will open them up to new fans in China. The cultural experience for the choir members will hopefully be just as enriching.—Emily_kr

On September 26th and 27th, fan kinda_kOOl posted the results of research on the concerts in China. Information had been in short supply and difficult to find  because of Chinese  Internet differences and regulations.

Interior of Jinshan Culture Museum

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!!
The 3 concerts on October 25, 26 & 27 are open to the public & no tickets required (as shared by a fellow Chinese fan).
Edit: reservations for those 3 can be made after October 9th, via call.

So after hours (but not that many hours) of digging for more, I've received this precious piece of information:

Apparently, you must make appointments ahead if you want to go to the 3 free concerts on the 25-27th. As said by a fellow Chinese fan, you can either call 021-62720455 or use some websites like
大麦网,文化上海云,艺术节官方票务平台, bookings will be opened on Oct 9th. (There's nothing in those sites for now, but he said there will be from Oct 9th onwards.) It's rather complicated, but that's how it works.—kinda_kOOl

On September 28th, fan Yuki tweeted a link to a Chinese website advertising the Libera appearances. It included a clip from the 2008 video of "Orinoco Flow," and information about the group, including (Google Translate):

These elf who want to make debut in China!

where is it? where is it? where is it?

The 19th China Shanghai International Arts Festival!

On October 2nd, katyafan posted the following note on the Libera dreams Forum

A part of Libera's "Ave Maria" is featured in a gymnast's floor routine at this year's world championships! I don't have any other details, but I will ask around. No video, but you can hear it in the background of this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-lkz5CnvaM

A note from Jimmy Riddle on the complexities of booking tickets for the concerts in China:

Good to see things are finally clarifying for booking tickets for the Libera concerts in China. Thanks to Yuki who has tweeted the latest blurb to come from the Shanghai International festival;

https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s?__biz=MjM5NT ... t_redirect

https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/L7tB14pl7I-6cnd_LHuheA

...all of the concerts apart from their opening one in Wuxi are being supported by the festival. The next three concerts are 'free' and the final one is chargeable. Hopefully Libera won't be needing to finance this tour as it's being sponsored by Volvo and they are invited guests to perform for the festival. Interesting to note that Dresden Boys Chorus are also performing a few concerts, maybe something to look out for those that are going.

Copied from the links above:

Note: tickets will be held on September 27 to make an appointment, you can directly visit the official festival ticket platform, barley net, cultural Shanghai cloud or call the telephone 021-62720455 to make an appointment.

September 27 The first batch of tickets : October 25 before the performance of
October 9 The second batch of billing : November 1 before the performance of
October 19 The third installment : November 1 - 20 of the performance
The above is a free scheduled rperformance; it does not include 12 hours of special events with the Shanghai Forest Music Festival ticket sales activities!

 LIBERA TWEETs

On October 12th, the following was posted on Libera Dreams by bachmahlerfan

On October 14th, the resourceful Patrick FandeLoK posted quite a bit of information, along with excellent photos of all the Libera in China venues, on Page 5 of:
http://www.forum.libera-dreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=2903&start=60

There are two kinds of concerts: - 2 paid concerts, on October 24th at Wuxi Grand Theatre and October 28th at the SHOAC, and 3 free concerts, October 25th, 26th and 27th, in the 'Art Sky' series.

Wuxi Grand Theatre

The 'Art Sky' series designates events that are free, but tickets can be required, in order to regulate the crowd.

The exact Art Sky venues' names and addresses are now clearly visible on some sites that offer the tickets.
Also on the festival official site, see this PDF or here, search for "英国天使之翼童声合唱团音乐会" for 'British Angel Wings Children's Choir Concert'.

Here a map that shows the 5 venues' locations.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yZCsV ... sp=sharing

If you think the venues are close to each other, you are wrong.
From downtown to the 3 most remote theatres, it requires 1h30 to 2h00 of driving.

The 1st and 5th venues are paid concerts, in beautiful great halls that can seat 1680 and 1979 people.
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th venues are free concerts, performed in local district theatres, that can seat about 500 persons.

NEW RELEASE OF "THE MOON REPRESENTS MY HEART

A glimpse of the never-released 2013 video of "The Moon Represents My Heart"

On October 18th, surpinto posted the following on Libera Dreams:

Per Yuki and Jimmy Riddle on Twitter a new single will be released in just a few days (October 20) titled "The Moon Represents My Heart." by Teresa Teng. This is very exciting because this is a song that they previously sang while in Taiwan during their 2013 tour there. It was highly anticipated by fans but was never released at that time apparently because it ran into copyright issues (you can see some of the discussion of this matter on page two of this Libera Dreams thread).

The big question now is whether they are releasing a new recording or are bringing back the old recording. If it is the old recording then it will be Michael Ustynovych-Repa as the soloist. If not, then it could be just about anyone. Any guesses?

Here are two videos from that time period concerning the song and its production.
A discussion from the first video, with Isaac London, JudeCollins, Michael Ustynovych-Repa and Cassius O' Connell-White.

October 27th Concert Canceled
On October 19th, a Shanghai news site announced that the concert scheduled at the
Shanghai Post and Telecommunications Club Theater has been canceled "for technical reasons." No other explanation was given, but it appeared the cancellation was not due to lagging ticket sales. It seemed a blessing in disguise, giving the Libera singers a full day of R&R mid-tour. The announcement from https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/39EeunjWCl_qCx-wRpiSSg:
Dear audience friends:

The 19th China Shanghai International Arts Festival "Art Sky" series of activities will be
kicked off on October 19 . Thank you to the audience friends, over the years for your China Shanghai International Arts Festival concern and support.

The British Angel Wing Children's Choir [Libera] concert, originally scheduled for October 27 at 19:00 at the Shanghai Posts and Telecommunications Club Theater, has been canceled for technical reasons. The performance is changed to the Czech National Symphony Orchestra concert.

NEW RECORDING OF "THE MOON REPRESENTS MY HEART'

On October 20th, the audio of "The Moon Represents My Heart" was made available for downloading. It was definitely a newly recorded version, with new harmonies and lush orchestration. There was much online discussion as to the identity of the final soloist, obviously a younger singer, with most guesses going to Romeo Tesei, and others choosing Leo Barron, Tadgh Fitzgerald, or Koji Shinokubo.

Victor C. provided the Mandarin and Pinyin lyrics, here as (loosely) interpreted. Chinese speakers reported that the boys' accent and pronunciation was excellent.

From the original 2013 unreleased video of "The Moon Represents My Heart." The only singer still with the group is Isaac London, at left in first row.

 A REVIEW FROM JOHN45

Three angels earned their wings at Wuxi tonight.

Victor Wiggin was not unexpected, having been almost certainly positively identified as the new soloist in the MP3 release of “The Moon Represents My Heart.” Sure enough, he performed the final solo perfectly – and that broad smile did no harm.

Victor Wiggin
It was not a huge surprise to see Ben Bywater take over the solo role in “Angel.”Along with Leo Barron and Adam Izghouti, he has been one of the principal back-up singers for quite some time. He did a great job. Well done, Ben.

Speakers/soloists Alex Gula, Oliver Mycka, Peter Kielty and Ben Bywater.
The real surprise came from Oliver Mycka, who has never worn a mike at previous concerts yet tonight gave one of the best solo performances of “Stay With Me” ever – and I have heard many. Why has he been left out in left field for so long? I cannot wait to hear him again tomorrow.

It’s 2.00 AM here so just a few brief notes : impressive venue – not a full house but a good attendance with many young children. Audience seemed a little reserved compared with others but perhaps that is the Chinese way, though they did show extra appreciation for “Arirang” and “ Moon.”

The concert started with a selection of songs from a local mixed children's choir. They numbered about 70 with perhaps 80% girls. They looked very smart in their blue velvet dresses trimmed with silver. The boys wore matching blue velvet suits. They were very impressive , especially when they returned and assembled in the area in front of the stage to accompany the boys for a magnificent finale of “Moon.”

Speeches were few, not surprising since they were in Mandarin. Alex Gula and Peter Kielty gave a short welcome and Alex G. and and Victor Wiggin gave a short thank you and farewell.

Gabriel Collins and Taichi Shinokubo

In between, other than as noted above, there were no major changes to the usual concert repertoire except that Taichi  Shinokubo replaced Camden Stewart for the “Dreaming of Home” solo part and there was a welcome return of “Far Away,” with Gabriel Collins adding it to his extensive solo collection.

Overall an excellent first concert in China. Congratulations to all thirty on stage.—John45

A NOTE FROM PATRICK
As you now know, on the last song ("The Moon Represents My Heart")  Libera was joined by a very large choir of 90 local kids.  The combined performance was outstanding.

The thing I would like to mention is the funny difference of attitude between the two choirs towards Robert Prizeman.

The Libera boys paid attention to Robert.
The Chinese kids eagerly scrutinized Robert.

They were intently staring at him, like it was absolutely essential to not miss a single millisecond of his conducting. They were all smiling and obviously very pleased to perform the song.

The singing went fantastic, the fact they were two choirs was not something audible; they all sang in perfect unison, with of course a totally accurate pronunciation of the Chinese words.

Of course the cherry on the cake was Victor Wiggin. The Libera boys were arranged in two arcs, Victor being located on the outside one, and he was not wearing an individual microphone.
When arrived the time of his last sentence, he quickly move forward, cutting directly through the 1st arc, to reach one of the two small microphone installed on center front stage.
With his incomparable smile he performed his lines brillantly and the whole song was greeted by a thunderous applause and yells off appreciation.—Patrick FandeLoK

SHANGHAI JINSHAN DISTRICT CULTURE MUSEUM
and
SHANGHAI CHONGMING DISTRICT THEATRE

Apparently the October 26th Chongming concert was marred by disruptive behavior on the part of the audience. John45 reported:

For those of you not following the Twitter running commentary, and for a more permanent record, here are a few notes about the second and third concerts.

The second concert was held at the Jinshan Cultural Centre, a very nice building and facility about two hours' drive from downtown Shanghai but still very much an urban area. An almost full house (capacity around 600), including many young children, enjoyed an excellent concert. Nice acoustics and some very nice lighting effects but otherwise not much new to report about the performances themselves which were all up to the usual high standard. Speeches were longer with familiar content in both Mandarin and English with English translation on side-screens.

Almost the same could be said for concert number three – also about a two drive from downtown Shanghai but in a predominately rural area on Chongming Island in the mouth of the Yangtze river north-east of the city. The facility itself was very similar to Jinshan. The audience composition too, but in this case the children were totally out of control chattering constantly, bouncing around on their seats, rolling on the floor, mimicking Robert’s arm movements - all with the apparent approval of their parents, one of whom spent most of the evening talking on her cellphone with a finger stuck in the other ear to block out the obviously annoying music. It was a huge test of the boys' concentration which they passed with flying colours. True professionals as they are, it didn't affect their performance - only our enjoyment.

Hoping for a more sophisticated audience tonight at the Shanghai Symphony Hall.—John45

Ludwig1874 had additional comments:

Thanks for the Posts, I really enjoy them!
I am working here in China for nearly three years and I also see the behavour of some chinese children, especially in buses and the underground. Some parents have a "free-style" of education for the children (they are all little Prince/Princess to them; they can do what they want). I ask myself why they are attending a concert, when they aren`t really interested?? I have seen that, with many students in the Chinese School where I am working, the parents carry the schoolbags for their children...
I wish I could hear Oliver's first solo...—Ludwig1874

SHANGHAI SYMPHONY HALL
On October 27th, by all reports, the concert at the Shanghai Symphony Hall was a resounding success, to judge from Twitter, with prolonged applause and "Bravos" marking the final bows of the night. The lobby display featured the Chinese audiences' new little hero/heartthrob, Victor Wiggin, who sang the final solo line of "The Moon Represents My Heart."

L to R: Mathias Montoro, Marc Alvares,Gabriel Collins, Ben Bywater, Gregor Lumsden, PeterKielty, Victor Wiggin, Merlin Brouwer,  Ciaran Bradbury-Hickey, Camden Stewart, Rocco Tesei, Alessandro Mackinnon-Botti, Oliver Mycka, Adam Izghouti, Leo Barron, Taichi Shinokubo.
John 45 provided excellent coverage:
The fourth concert was indeed a private event by invitation from the sponsors, Volvo, with only ten seats available for the general public by lottery. However, thanks to the efforts of Libera staff, nine seats were made available to international fans. The allocated seats were situated high up on the far left at the rear of the hall, however, the 1200-capacity hall was only about two thirds full so we were able to move forward to vacant seats in the first and second rows.

The symphony hall itself is magnificent with perfect acoustics and sightlines – and also the most comfortable seats! Once again there were many young children in the audience but in contrast to last night’s bedlam, their behaviour was exemplary. The adult audience too was much more generous with their applause and there were even some US style whoops and yells in appreciation for “The Moon.” There was also a nicely illustrated bilingual programme.

The concert opened as usual with "San Damiano," followed by "Sanctus" with Merlin Brouwer providing the main descant and the final “Sanctus.” Peter Kielty and Alex Gula delivered the welcoming speech and introduced “Dreaming of Home.” Great work by Taichi Shinokubo,
who has now taken over the entire solo part from Camden Stewart.

Next was Merlin’s customary flawless delivery of “From A Distance” followed by Oliver Mycka with “Stay with Me.” Oliver has a very pleasing voice to my ear; a fine wine which I think will mature well.

Photo from Jinshan Concert
Talking of fine wines, Gabriel Collins has now surely reached Premier Cru status. Superb performances of his three solos “Far Away,” “Wonderful World,” and “Smile,” all filled with emotion. I can’t help looking back to the very young Gabriel in Washington in 2014, so wrapped up in the song that he forgot to move positions and was left alone at the side of the stage. He always puts heart and soul into his singing.

“Sacris Solemnis,” “Libera,” and the beautiful “Arirang” completed the first half.

Second half opened as usual with “Dies Irae” segueing into “Joyful, Joyful” – and there is indeed much joy to be had in watching the joyful exuberance of Victor Wiggin giving it his all.

Ben Bywater once again excelled with a beautiful performance of “Angel.”

Now might be the time to thank Camden Stewart for his wonderful past solos. His speaking voice is still quite high but it would seem that his previous solos are now beyond his range. Many thanks, Camden.

Great “Salvas’ from the hooded Taichi  Shinokubo were followed by “Amazing Grace” – and if we’re using wine similes, Rocco Tesei must be “Dom Perignon.”

Next was “Orinoco Flow," which is always a crowd pleaser, followed by Alex Gula’s intense “Wayfaring Stranger,” which always gives me goosebumps.

“Exultate” always marks the end of the show and seems to arrive much too early. The encore was, of course, “The Moon Represents my Heart” with stunning harmonies from all thirty on stage and receiving welcoming applause at its start and thunderous applause on its conclusion.

Yesterday’s concert will be memorable for the wrong reasons but today’s will be memorable as one of the best. Thanks Libera.—John45

SHANGHAI ORIENTAL ART CENTER CONCERT HALL

On October 28th, Libera performed their fifth and last concert at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. This was a paid-admission performance, and the 1953-seat hall was filled to capacity. The audience reception was enthusiastic.

There were no notable changes in the set list, but the final solo of "The Moon Represents My Heart" was sung by Oliver Mycka, and the boys appeared to be joined (at right in photo below, by a girls' chorus.) A very young lady presented Robert Prizeman with the traditional bouquet at the end of the concert.

On October 29th, fan kinda_kOOl contributed a personal and emotional review:

I was there, at the 3 concerts from the 25th to the 27th - thanks to the help of international fans (seriously, without their help, I wouldn't have been able to attend even one of them, so... thank you!). My heart was filled with joy and now I have the broadest smile whenever I think about that wonderful experience. My eyes got wet and my nose got red at all the 3 concerts - they were truly touchingly amazing.

I may write a full review or so (because this is my first time), but it's going to take a while. I'll just leave a few notes here first (some of you may have already mentioned these things though):

  • Victor Wiggin is the new smile of Libera - just looking at him smiling makes me happy. Especially in 'Joyful Joyful', which I bet it's one of his favorites, he looked as if he didn't care about any other things in this world!
  • Victor Wiggin sings the last line of "Moon" in the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall
  • Taichi Shinokubo and Leo Barron showed their big ambition towards the high notes (especially Leo, from what I've seen). Whenever it came to their high parts, their faces were illuminated by passion.

  • Gabriel Collins & small Oliver Watt-Rodriguez always had their head inclined to the side.

  • Tadhg Fitzgerald walked really fast. I noticed it as I was sitting close to him on the 25th (& then I noticed it in the next two days too).

  • Their live singing skills were fantastic! They really sang in perfect unison throughout most of the time (there were sometimes that one voice stood out a little bit, but those were just minor). Plus, I found some songs even better than their studio versions.
  • In Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall

  • The lower part was spectacular (especially on the 27th where I could hear Isaac London's voice pretty clearly) - I would have even given them a separate applause if I'd had the chance.

  • The three crowds from the three concerts all gave the boys generous applause when they started singing some Chinese words of 'The Moon Represents My Heart.'

  • The lights for the 25th & 26th were stunning - they really added to the atmospheric mood(s) of the song. For the 27th, there was no additional lighting except for the built-in system of the venue, so the mood on the 27th was kind of different; personally I found it more 'classical'.

  • I enjoyed all songs (including the songs I didn't really like at first). And I've added some more songs into my 'Brought-me-to-tears' category.

  • There were some kids behind me on the 25th too, and they were somewhat annoying, but that was nothing compared to the 26th, on which they even had to announce something like 'Please take care of your own children' on the speakers.

  • There were a lot of giggles on stage on the 26th, perhaps because of the kids in the venue. But as we've come to expect, Libera boys overcame it with undoubted professionalism.

  • Meeting & hanging out with other fans was totally a pleasant and unforgettable experience!!

  • Eimear's McGeown’s playing was hypnotizing. And she was really friendly too.

At first, I thought that I was so overwhelmed that I wept so much at the 25th's concert, and that I wouldn't shed as many tears at the next two. I was wrong, as I also cried (perhaps even more?) at the next concerts. So, I've carefully recollected my feelings to come up with a list of the songs that still haven't got me to a crying mood... (yet.)

  • “Stay with me:” I felt really relaxed at this one, there was no urge to cry.

  • “Libera:” creepy atmosphere, with the serious faces of the boys...

  • “Dies Irae:” same as above, but it was close on the 27th, so I guess if I listen to it live once again, I may lose it.

  • “Orinoco Flow:” too joyful, and I didn't quite like this song (well, I do like to listen to it live now, I blame Libera!)

  • “Exsultate:” To be honest, I don't dislike this one (I even think it's better than “Adoramus, “sue me!), but it's too joyful to cry about.—kinda_kOOl
REVIEWS

On October 30th, Patrick FandeLoK tweeted a number of news sites with articles and/or reviews of Libera's appearances at the Shanghai Arts Festival (all very positive). The following, from Wuxi contained many photos from that concert, as well as information about the children's choir that joined in on "The Moon Represents My Heart." The text (translated from Chinese) is typical of that on most of the other sites.

Wuxi City Children 's Palace 2017-10-25 14:49:15

On the evening of October 24, the Wuxi Children's Palace Choir and the British Angel Wings Children's Choir performed at the Wuxi Grand Theater on the same stage. Vice Mayor Liu Xia, People's Government of Wuxi City, came to the performance scene.

British Libera Angel Wings Chorus's predecessor was founded in 1984 as the San Philip’s Children's Choir. In 1988, the group released its first album "SingForEver;" in 1990, they released "AngelVoices-NewDay," followed in a few years by AngelVoices series of three albums and their re-arranged version (1996 AngelVoices- Peace On Earth), the whole The group began to be well known. They wear pure white robes, and sing wonderful harmonies to bring people into the paradise of the world, giving a quiet, sacred feeling. This sound is heavenly, beautiful and totally natural, without a trace of deliberate modification. This group of children have a totally different sound, almost as if the sky had a voice.

In addition to the inherent simplicity of the children's voices, clear and translucent, there was also the integration of the of the church choir chant, creating a memorable, mysterious and quiet atmosphere that lingers in the mind long after listening.

The group is conducted by Robert Prizeman, who graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Royal Academy of Music), and has worked to make the choir more modern and popular, adding new elements in the process of creation and arranging, making the whole song richer and more ethereal.

Wuxi City Children's Palace choir was established in 1982, thirty-five years to cultivate a large number of artistic talent. Over the past three years, won the Jiangsu Province, "five-star project award" Silver Award, China Central "Chorus Pioneer" National annual six strong, the seventh session of the Chinese charm of the campus choral festival gold medal (first), the seventh Chinese children choral festival was National Ministry of Culture named the "National Excellent Demonstration Children's Choir" title, Jiangsu Province, Zijin Chorus Festival bronze medal, the sixth China Children's Choir Festival Gold Award. Chorus is committed to the creation, singing a number of original children's chorus works, "Little Wuxi King" and other original works by the Central Television shooting MTV in the CCTV music channel many times to play. The choir has become a beautiful man with first-class team at home and abroad, with the German Augsburg Cathedral Children's Choir, Shanghai Spring Children's Choir, China National Symphony Orchestra, Romania Bucharest State Opera House Children's Choir Wuxi city culture card. 2016 by the Chinese record company published the first song of the city singer album fever album "my heart singing", the Chinese chorus master Yan Liang Kun master is pleased for the choir inscription "the voice of the United States and the long wisdom."

After the end of the performance, a big thumbs up to the British children and teachers, and to the Wuxi City Children's Palace choir members and teachers!  Mr. Robert Prizeman bowed to the City Children's Palace Choir, and said: "I am very surprised and moved."

MOVIE NOTE FROM THE FURBY

The Lost City of Z is an American production released in 2016.
From IMDb : A true-life drama, centering on British explorer Col. Percival Fawcett, who disappeared while searching for a mysterious city in the Amazon in the 1920s.

On November 15th, Surpinto posted on Libera Dreams:

Per information acquired by fan_de_LoK and Yuki on twitter, this album has now been released as an LP in Japan and the UK. The LP is to have the same cover art as the international release version.

I am surprised by this move and am wondering if it is a byproduct of them being involved with the Invisible Hands music label. This is plausible as I am not aware of any Libera album being released on LP prior. Being that Invisible Hands is an independent label they may do things that are considered more "trendy" such as releasing LP's whereas other labels would not have normally done that with a choir as the music artist.

There is an ongoing debate as to the advantages and disadvantages of LPs vs CDs, but at least this way fans of either format will be satisfied. —Surpinto

CHONGMING CONCERT REVIEW

On November 22nd, Korean fan Emily_kr published her own very detailed review, with photos, of the Chongming concert from the 2017 China tour. It supplied many missing elements (such as content of speeches and lighting effects) and many wonderful personal observations on individual performances, what the boys did between songs, interesting segués, audience reactions, and other small tidbits (Ben Bywater, continuing the Big Ben/Mini-Ben/Nano-Ben tradition, is now apparently known as "Pico-Ben."

In a later post, she noted that Rocco Tesei sang the solo on"Wayfaring Stranger " for the second and third concerts, and Alex sang it for the first, fourth, and fifth).

On November 29th, the following appeared on the OfficialLibera Events Page:

December 1st Concert Update: Change of Venue

CHRISTMAS CONCERT AT WESTMINSTER CATHEDRAL
On December 1st, Libera performed their annual concert of Christmas music and favorites at Westminster Cathedral in London. Faithful fan John45 provided an information-filled summary of a program that included several new arrangements of old favorites and introduced eight new miniboys (Photos by Patrick and occasional notes by Johan, from the Netherlands).

Last-minute change of venue went remarkably well, though it seems the British have forgotten one of their most basic skills – how to queue. Perhaps the weather had something to do with that.

Anyway, once we were all inside, all went smoothly – CDs, calendars and a magnificently illustrated Year Book were [available]. Unsigned programs were sold by Sam Wiggin and Matt Madine,  both looking very tall and very dapper. Signed programs were also available for an extra two pounds.

The usual former members, Jonathan Barrington, Kavana Crossley, and Simon Lewis were in the technical department helping Sam Coates.—Johan

Concert opened with a lively performance of “Do you Hear what I Hear” followed by “Sanctus” with Merlin Brouwer on the final Sanctus.

Next came a very nice version of “Gaudete“, the main theme prefaced by a delightful solo from Gabriel Collins – much better than the Christmas DVD I think.
Gabriel Collins in the solo spot.
Rocco Tesei then aced his moving rendition of “Angele Dei” and was followed by an equally flawless “From a Distance” by Merlin Brouwer. Robert Prizeman stood from his usual seated position for part of this and a number of other songs. Not sure why, the stage was relatively high so perhaps those at the back were not seeing his direction well.

A note from Netherlands fan Johan: The first half before the interval the choir was not its usual perfect self. In fact Robert had to rise a few times  to a standing position in order to 'restore order' as it were. Not that there was any unruly behaviour, but it did not sound right all the time. I do not know what he told them during the interval, but afterwards they were perfect.

Last time I already saw Rocco Tesei as an upcoming soloist. Now he is a soloist to reckon with. It showed in his body language, he is self-confident and has leadership qualities. He is the natural successor of Isaac London. Of course he has still to grow and develop.—Johan

Lovely performance of “Carol of the Bells” (over six million plays on YouTube) came next with new miniboy (and certain future star performer) Daniel White singing the final “Ding Dong.” He later gave a very confident speech about the “miniboys,” relating that they were all aged eight but that he had just turned nine!

Alex Gula followed with a very moving performance of my favourite hymn “How Great Thou Art.”

Very nice performance of “Stay With Me” by Oliver Mycka – but there seemed to be something wrong with his mike (or the mixing) as his sweet voice was drowned out by the French horn at times.

First half then finished with what has recently been the start of the second half: “Dies Irae” segueing into “Joyful, Joyful” with China poster-boy Victor Wiggin once again providing much joy.

Second half opened with Alex Gula flanked by Oliver Mycka and Peter Kielty with a wonderful new arrangement of “I Am the Day.” This was the highlight of the evening for me. Beautiful arrangement; perfect harmony from the original three and then a wonderful high/low exchange between Leo Barron and an unknown bass (couldn’t see).

“I’m Dreaming of Home” with great solo work from Taichi Shinkubo.

“San Damiano” with lots of heart and soul from the full choir.

“Salva Me” well performed as usual.

“Amazing Grace” —the amazing Rocco redeems this, to my taste, less than amazing hymn.

“Orinoco Flow” performed with the usual gusto.

“Wayfaring Stranger:”
Loved this. Alex Gula sings with such feeling and his maturing voice is now just perfect for this song.

“Smile:” Scorned by me before it got the Libera treatment, but will now always be a favourite. Gabriel Collins and Alessandro Mackinnon-Botti were just perfect. Was there a glint of a tear in Alessandro’s eye? Could this be his last Libera concert? I hope not.

“Libera” marked the formal ending of the concert and was followed by a standing ovation with prolonged applause and many “Bravos”

At first it looked like there would be no encore as RP moved away from his podium. Then it became clear that he was moving towards the piano on the far left. The room quietened. Gabriel Collins and Leo Barron moved to the front left and front right of the stage respectively. Robert began to play and Gabe began to sing the most heartfelt rendition of “Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep” that I have ever heard and Leo provided beautiful counterpoint. A most emotional experience which, for me, whatever its intent may have been, was a moving tribute to the late Steven Phillip.

There was just time to wipe my eyes as RP moved back to his podium and brought the mood back to one of joy leading the choir in a lively performance of “In Dulci Jubilo” as the finale.

I have not mentioned the speeches, which were mostly new, very entertaining and expertly delivered. Towards the end, about a dozen different boys wished us Christmas greetings in the language of their heritage – culminating in our favourite half- “All American Boy” (Peter Kielty) wishing us Happy Holidays.

A wonderful evening. Thank you Libera.

PS. About the mini-boys: there were eight of them and they participated in a number of songs, standing in groups of four at the front of the stage. It seems that two of them might be brothers of current members: Ethan (Leo Barron) and Nicholas (Laurence Taylor).—John45

Members of the Libera Dreams Forum also noted the appearances of Alessandro Mackinnon-Botti in the role of "Tommy"on a CD of Pickwick: A Dramatic Cantata, and Gabriel Collins as a soundtrack singer on the film Paddington II.

December 12th: See photos of all new miniboys at the end of the 12/1 concert review above. Although Cassius Collard and Koji Shinokubo sang the entire concert (as opposed to the miniboys, who only participated in certain numbers), they are still classified as miniboys because they have not yet appeared on tour with the group.

On December 14th, a photograph of all Libera singers at the December 1st Westminster Cathedral concert appeared, with all names in full, and miniboys designated by green numbering. (The photo appears to have been taken in November.) A larger image may be viewed at:

A CHRISTMAS GREETING

On December 23rd, the annual Libera  "Christmas Greeting" appeared on YouTube. Usually a haphazard  jumble of seasonal wishes from various choristers, collected during their annual Christmas party, this year's offering featured a slightly more formal approach, showcasing the voices of inddevidual boys.

  1. Just to clarify, the disruptive behaviour was at Chongming - not Jinshan. The picture uploaded by Emily is from the Jinshan concert - not the 27th Oct Shanghai concert.
